The Fremont Area Community Foundation started as the private Fremont Foundation in 1951 but was reorganized twenty years later into its current legal structure as a public community foundation.
The community foundation is comprised of more than 500 separate funds, including two supporting organizations and three geographic affiliates, the Mecosta County Community Foundation, Osceola County Community Foundation, and Lake County Community Foundation.
Since becoming a public community foundation in 1972, we have received $72 million in gifts and made $190 million in grants to benefit the Newaygo County area. The total value of the community foundation assets was $203 million as of December 2012. It is one of the largest community foundations in the United States on a per capita basis, serving a population of approximately 50,000 with net assets of just over $200 million.
