About Us

The Fremont Area Community Foundation serves the Newaygo County, Michigan area. The Foundation is one of the largest community foundations in the nation on a per capita basis, serving a population of 50,000 and with 2007 yearend net assets of $218 million. In 2007, the Foundation made grants of $10.6 million to benefit the Newaygo County area.

2007 marked the Foundation’s 35th anniversary as a community foundation; however, its roots go back to the early 1930’s when a few visionary philanthropists created funds to benefit their community (see Foundation History). These funds were incorporated in 1951 forming the private Fremont Foundation. 22 years later, the Foundation was reorganized into its current structure as a public community foundation.

The Foundation is comprised of more than 400 separate funds, including two supporting organizations and three geographic affiliates. The Foundation offers donors a wonderful way to give back to their community, while maximizing financial benefits (see Donor Services).

Since 1972, the Foundation has received $56 million in gifts and made $146 million in grants to benefit the Newaygo County area, a 261% return on donors’ dollars.
